Middletown Bridge Closure To Affect Traffic For Months

A bridge will be closed for most of the year and a detour will be set up.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The state Department of Transportation has announced a bridge closure on West Street over the Providence and Worcester Railroad starting April 1. Work is expected to be complete by Nov. 29.

A detour will be in place for the project's duration. Motorists will go from West Street to Middlefield Street, Forest Street and Wadsworth Street. There will be temporary shuttle service to transport pedestrians and bicyclists around the bridge seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The current four-span solid timber bridge was found to be structurally and functionally obsolete. A precast concrete rigid frame supported by reinforced concrete will be put in its place.
