Middletown Headed to Boys Basketball Finals
The Blue Dragons knocked off second-seeded Newington in overtime to reach the Class L championship game at Mohegan Sun Arena.
BERLIN, CT - For the first time in 22 years, the Middletown High School boys basketball team is headed to the state basketball finals after upsetting second-seeded Newington, 73-68 in overtime Tuesday night at Berlin High School.
The Blue Dragons, seeded third, will take on No. 4 East Catholic, which also worked overtime in defeating top-seeded Windsor, 60-57.
The championship game will be either Saturday or Sunday; exact date and times are to be announced.

Middletown will be making its 10th title game appearance, but first since 1994. The Blue Dragons are 7-2 in state championship tilts, and have won their past six dating back to 1968.
East Catholic will be making its 12th appearance in the finals; in 2014, the Eagles crushed Weaver, 87-60 to capture the Class M crown. The school is 4-7 in state championship games.
