Middletown K9 Rescues Woman With Dementia

An elderly woman was found in a stream, tangled up in brush.

Middletown’s K9 Hunter and partner Officer Mike D’Aresta assisted police with a missing elderly woman.

The woman was reportedly suffering from dementia and wandered away from her home at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26.

Police and neighbors had already conducted an area canvas with negative results, the Middletown CT Police K-9 Unit reported via Facebook.

“Upon arrival, K9 Hunter was presented with a shirt belonging to the elderly missing woman,” police said. “Using the scent from that shirt, K9 Hunter tracked to a small stream located down a steep embankment a short distance from the residence. K9 Hunter found the disorientated woman standing in the stream, tangled in some brush.”

The woman sustained minor cuts and lacerations and was transported to Middlesex Hospital for treatment.

“Great job K9 Hunter and great effort to all officers involved,” police wrote.
