Middletown Man Assaults Pregnant Woman, Officers: Police Say
During an interview with officers, Jonathan Santiago allegedly became combative.

Middletown Police visited a woman on Tuesday, May 26, to investigate an alleged domestic incident that occurred in the past.
The victim provided a sworn, written statement detailed alleged abuse that took place while a toddler was present. The woman is presently 27-weeks pregnant, according to police.
Officers approached Jonathan Santiago, 32, of Middletown, on May 26, to conduct an interview regarding the victim’s statement.

“The suspect was uncooperative with officers and attempted to leave the interview and elude investigating officers,” police said. “Officers then engaged the accused to affect an arrest where the accused became aggressive and combative and actively assaulted several officers, causing them bodily injury.”
Santiago was read his rights and arrested on the following charges:

- Assault in the third degree against a pregnant person
- Risk of injury to a child
- Interfering with an officer
- Four counts of assault of a public safety/emergency medical personnel
- Disorderly conduct
He was held on a $500,000 surety bond and given a March 27 court date.
