Middletown Man Breaks T.V. With Broom, Police Allege
The 50-year-old man has a history of similar incidents, police said.

On August 17 at approximately 12:57 a.m., Middletown police were called to 26 Silver St. on a disturbance call. When police arrived, the Silver Street resident said client Brian McDonough, 50, of 98 Liberty St., Middletown, became angry when he didn’t receive money he felt he was due.
He allegedly picked up a broom and hit the television, completely destroying the T.V. and breaking the broom, Officer August DeFrance said in a police report.
“He stated that he understood that he had been wrong with this incident,” DeFrance said. “It should be noted that this type of incident has been occurring with Mr. McDonough frequently. Approximately a week ago, he smashed a table at a Gilead social club on Saybrook Road and was arrested for this as well.”

DeFrance spoke with McDonough at the scene.
“He stated that he has been abusing crack cocaine and wanted the $40 he receives each week so that he could pay off a drug dealer what he owes him,” DeFrance said in a police report. “He had been docked $15 in order to pay for taking a Playstation from the home and selling it for drugs a week ago.”

DeFrance said McDonough told me he was still angry and didn’t feel safe.
“He was transported to Middlesex Hospital for treatment and I completed a PEER as I felt he was a danger to himself and others,” the officer wrote in the report.
McDonough was charged with:
- Criminal mischief in the third degree
- Disorderly conduct
