Middletown Man Sentenced For Trafficking Meth, False Tax Returns
The man was charged with distributing meth in the Middletown area and also helped clients file false tax returns, according to authorities.
MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for drug trafficking and tax offenses, according to authorities. Eugene Carlin, 59, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release following the prison term, U.S. States Attorney for Connecticut John H. Durham announced this week.
According to court documents and statements made in court, authorities executed a search warrant at Carlin’s Middletown residence in July of 2018 and seized approximately 170 grams of d-methamphetamine hydrochloride of very high purity. Carlin subsequently admitted that, for more than a year, he worked with others to distribute methamphetamine in the Middletown area, authorities said.
“The investigation further revealed that Carlin he helped clients to prepare and file false tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service,” officials wrote in a news release. “In 2007, Carlin was convicted in Hartford federal court of tax evasion, and aiding in the preparation of false tax returns. That matter also involved Carlin helping clients of his tax preparation business to file false returns.”

In August 2007, Carlin was sentenced to 12 months and one day of imprisonment, and six months of home confinement. He also agreed to refrain, permanently, from preparing tax returns for other people.
As part of the resolution of this case, Carlin has been ordered to forfeit $100,000, which represents his proceeds from the sale of methamphetamine, according to authorities. On Oct. 26, 2018, Carlin pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute, and to possess with intent to distribute, methamphetamine, and one count of aiding in the preparation of false tax returns.
