Middletown Moves Aug. 3 Common Council Meetings Remote During Primary Voting

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown's Common Council meetings scheduled for Monday, Aug. 3, will be held fully remote because primary voting will take place in the Council Chamber, according to Mayor Gene Nocera's biweekly newsletter dated July 31, 2026.

The newsletter said Questions to Directors at 6 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. will both move online. Residents can join through WebEx.com using Event # 2333 200 9905 and the password Middletown, or by phone at 408-418-9388 with the same access code. The city said people calling by phone who want to speak should press *3 to activate the hand raise function. The meetings will also be shown on the City of Middletown website and the city's Facebook page.

Nocera's newsletter also shared updates on recycling, library programs and summer activities around the city. It said Middletown officials visited the Berlin recycling facility that handles material from the city's blue recycling carts. The newsletter described the site as "the largest and most technologically advanced recycling center in New England—and one of the largest in the country" and said it plays "a critical role in managing our waste."

The newsletter added, "The better we recycle individually, the less our community spends transporting waste to out-of-state landfills. Let's work together to recycle right every time!" Residents looking for more information were directed to the city's recycling coordinator at Recycling@MiddletownCT.gov.

At Russell Library, the Summer Reading Program finale is set for Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon on the south lawn. The event will include "petting some familiar farm friends" and is open to all ages on a drop-in basis, according to the newsletter. A Klezmer concert featuring Nu Haven Kapelye is planned for Aug. 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the Hubbard Room, and registration is recommended. The library will also host "Kindergarten, Here We Come!" storytime on Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. for rising kindergarteners, while Chess Club continues every Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

The newsletter encouraged residents over the next two weeks to visit the Friday farmers market on the South Green, attend concerts and community gatherings, explore parks and trails, and support local businesses. It also included hot weather reminders to stay hydrated, check on elderly neighbors and family members, avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles, and call 911 in an emergency.
