Middletown Official Appointed To State E-9-1-1 Commission

MIDDLETOWN, CT — (From City of Middletown): Gov. Ned Lamont has appointed Robert J. Grauer, Deputy Director of Central Communications for the City of Middletown, to serve on the Enhanced 9-1-1 Commission of the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Division of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications.

In a January 19th letter to Grauer, Lamont wrote, “I have the honor and privilege to appoint you to the E 9-1-1 Commission, as a member who is a manager or coordinator of 9-1-1 public safety answering points serving areas of differing population concentration, in succession to Joanne Miles, for a term ending January 18, 2026, and until a successor is appointed and has qualified.”

Grauer was appointed as the Deputy Director in Middletown in 2018 and started as a Dispatcher in Middletown in 2013. He previously worked for the City of New Haven’s 911 Center. He has national certifications for Emergency Number Professional and Communications Center Manager.

“I want to thank Governor Lamont for his selection of an outstanding public servant in Robert Grauer for service on the E 9-1-1 Commission,” Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim said. “I also want to congratulate Deputy Director Grauer on his well-earned appointment. I know that his leadership experience in a dispatch center serving two communities—the City of Middletown as well as the Town of Portland—will be invaluable to the Commission’s work of improving public safety agency coordination in our state.”

Grauer said, “It’s a privilege to serve on the E 9-1-1 Commission to represent the State’s 9-1-1 Center Managers. Not only in Middletown, but nationwide, 9-1-1 Centers and their dedicated personnel are the first link in an important chain for those seeking emergency assistance.”

The City’s 911 Center serves as an emergency call answering point and dispatch center for Police Fire and Emergency Medical service calls for the City of Middletown and the Town of Portland.

The E 9-1-1 Commission was established to advise the Division of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications in the planning, design, implementation and coordination of the statewide emergency 911 telephone system. The Commission is composed of public safety officials, business executives and municipal leaders with expertise in telecommunications.
