Middletown Police Chief Allowed To Move Out Of City

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown Police Chief William McKenna has been granted a waiver of the city’s ordinance that requires exempt, non-bargaining unit personnel to live in town following a vote of the Common Council this week, according to the Middletown Press.

The Press reports McKenna is moving his family to Old Saybrook to care for his ailing mother following the death of his father last year.

McKenna, a lifelong Middletown resident who has been a member of the police department for 25 years (including the past eight years as chief), will be required to report to Mayor Ben Florsheim on a biennial basis to review his circumstances, according to the Press.
