It is with great loss and sadness that we learned of the passing of K9 Niko. Our hearts go out to his handler Sgt. Doug Clark and his family, as we all know the bond between the handler and K9 is very special and unique.
K9 Niko served Middletown from 2005 to the end of 2012. He gave his all and put “it on the line everyday.” K9 Niko had numerous uses, tracks and deployments throughout his career. Of note; tracking down a fugitive on America’s Most Wanted list, getting shot at during a criminal apprehension, recovering and returning to duty after nearly being choked out during an apprehension, winning top team for obedience at the K9 Olympics 3 times along with his daily patrol duties and calls for service.
K9 Niko was an amazing dog. He was all business when it came to work however, off-duty and at the PD he was social and friendly.
They say in training that everything flows down leash and in this case Sgt. Clark did a phenomenal job with K9 Niko.
The entire family of the Middletown Police mourns his loss.
RIP K9 Niko – you will be missed but not forgotten.
