“After initially asking some officers on-duty if they could stop by the party, the department ended up having an extremely busy day,” reads a post on the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund’s website. “When Magnano heard that the officers on-duty were unable to make an appearance, he took matters into his own hands. After receiving permission from the department, Magnano suited up on his day off and headed to the party.”
Magnano presented the boy with a police officer costume when he arrived, garnering even more excitement from the 5-year-old boy, according to the website.
