MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown residents Kevin Cox and Brian Ballou are launching a new Abrakadoodle art education franchise that will serve central Connecticut, including Hartford, Glastonbury, Newington, Middletown, Meriden and Wallingford.
Abrakadoodle Central Connecticut will “bring creative, mobile art programs to benefit children in the community,” according to a news release. “Abrakadoodle’s award-winning visual arts classes, camps, workshops, in-school field trips, special events and arty parties are delivered at schools, community centers, and other community sites.”
“I want to be a resource to education leaders and community members,” Ballou said. “I look forward to bringing a creative spark to kids of all ages in a refreshing and empowering way that brings people together.”

In addition to its art education programs, Abrakadoodle offers creative art programs and social art parties and events through its Art Splash program, which is designed specifically for adults. Abrakadoodle also provides face painting for parties and community events through its Arty Faces program.
“We are delighted to welcome Brian and Kevin to our award-winning Abrakadoodle franchise system,” said Rosemarie Hartnett, CFE, president and co-founder of Abrakadoodle, Inc. “They complement each other with expertise in business and the visual arts along with a genuine desire to reach children through art, which will serve them well in developing a vibrant business that serves Central Connecticut.”

Ballou holds a bachelor of arts degree in Communications and Political Science from the University of New Hampshire and is on track to graduate with an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University this June. Since 2002, Ballou has grown in positions of responsibility in the insurance industry and most recently was regional vice president.
“I was looking for a new experience via business ownership in a creative concept that closely aligns with my beliefs and values and Abrakadoodle was a great fit,” Ballou said.
Ballou began taking part in community theater productions at the age of 13. His partner Kevin Cox is a figurative artist, specializing in oils on canvas, according to the news release. Cox attended The University of Memphis where he studied art.
“I think Abrakadoodle is a wonderful program and a great opportunity for us,” Cox said. “Art is so important for kids, and I am excited about the chance to bring a robust art program to benefit children in schools and community sites.”
