Middletown Scholastic Fall Sports: Past Titles, 2018 Schedules

A look at the state championship history in fall team sports at Middletown-based high schools, plus their 2018 fall schedules.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Practice is now officially underway for all eight CIAC-sanctioned fall sports in Connecticut, with boys and girls cross country, field hockey, football, boys and girls soccer, girls swimming and girls volleyball teams setting out on their quests for league and state championships.

Among schools in Patch communities in Middlesex and New London counties, Xavier is the all-time leader with 35 fall team championships, followed by St. Bernard (34) and Norwich Free Academy (24).

Area schools looking to repeat their 2017 state titles are Haddam-Killingworth boys and girls cross country (both Class SS), Xavier boys cross country (State Open and LL), East Lyme boys cross country (MM), Morgan boys soccer (S) and Old Lyme girls soccer (S).

Xavier High School's 35 fall state titles date back to 1970. Middletown High School has claimed four fall championships since 1984, and Mercy has earned three titles since 1990. Vinal Tech has never won a state title.
