Mosaics on Main is envisioned as the first stage of a larger, longer-term effort to transform the pedestrian tunnel under Route 9. Conceived by Middletown artist Kate Ten Eyck in collaboration with the Middletown Downtown Business District, Mosaics on Main will exhibit mosaicked panels and other artifacts in open storefronts along Main Street before their eventual installation in the tunnel as part of an immersive mosaic called Tunnel Vision.

On September 5th, the Middletown Common Council voted unanimously in support of this proposal by Ten Eyck to revitalize the pedestrian tunnel under Route 9, connecting downtown Middletown to Harbor Park and the Connecticut River. The content of the mural will reflect the history of Middletown in relationship to geology going back in time as the viewer goes deeper into the tunnel. This project will take many years to complete, and will involve multiple collaborating organizations and hundreds if not thousands of artists, scientists, historians, archeologists, and community members.

Please come and celebrate our inaugural artists, and the beginning of this exciting project!
