On Saturday, October 6, from 10am to 1:30pm, Beth Lapin will be offering a three+ hour hike at Higby Mountain through Middletown's Recreation Division. We will have a rare opportunity to access the Mattabesett Trail through the city's water department lands that include Higby and Adder Reservoirs. This is a moderately difficult hike due to length and steepness. Children under age 16 must attend with an adult 18+ and this hike is NOT suitable for younger children.Wear hiking shoes (some steep and wet areas), bring a snack and water, camera, binoculars if desired.
Directions: Mt. Higby, on Route 66, about a quarter-mile west of the junction with Higby Road (Red Dog Saloon), look for an unmarked driveway on the right (north) with an orange cone that leads to the reservoir (west of the driveway with mail box #238--do NOT go up that private driveway with the mail box). Follow the road with the cone, through the gates, to the buildings, where there are restrooms (available before the hike) and parking.
Please email (Beth@HealingNatureCT.com) if you are planning to join. Questions that morning: 860 262 2788. This trip will be cancelled if inclement weather.
