Nathan Carman Could Receive Millions From Murdered Grandfather’s Estate: Report

Carman's aunts recently filed a lawsuit requesting that he be declared a murderer to block the inheritance.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Nathan Carman could receive more than $7 million from his murdered grandfather’s estate unless a lawsuit filed by his aunts in New Hampshire court is successful in having him declared a murderer, according to the Hartford Courant. Carman’s aunts filed the lawsuit last month in an attempt to prevent him from inheriting the share from his mother, Linda Carman, who was lost at sea last September while on a fishing trip with Nathan and is presumed dead.

The Courant reports the estate of John Chakalos has a balance of $28.8 million, less than the $40 million it was valued at when Linda Carman disappeared, and his will states that the estate is to be split equally between his four daughters. Nathan Carman is the sole heir to Linda Carman’s share of the estate, according to the Courant.

John Chakalos was murdered inside his Windsor home in 2013. Nathan Carman was considered a suspect, but no one has been charged in connection with the killing. (To sign up for Middletown breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Nathan Carman was rescued by the Orient Lucky freighter while on a life raft last September after being lost at sea for more than a week. Until Nathan was found by the Orient Lucky about 100 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, Linda and Nathan hadn’t been seen since they left Ram's Point Marina in Point Judith on Sept. 18 for a fishing trip on a 31-foot aluminum center console boat, the Chicken Pox.

Linda, 54, was never found and is presumed dead.
