New Middletown Superintendent Hosting Open House

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Joseph Macary, Middletown's new superintendent of schools, is scheduled to host an open house next week.

The idea is to welcome parents and students to a new school year and talk about important topics "as we get ready to go back to class."

Appointments are not needed to attend.

The open house is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the MPS Central Office complex, 311 Hunting Hill Ave.

Macary was appointed Middletown's new education chief in April, and began his tenure this summer.

He previously served in Vernon.

Under Macary's tenure, Vernon's "Alliance District" label was turned into a showcase school system, especially in terms of capital improvement and academic improvement.

Test scores steadily climbed.

Another example is a completely revamped Agricultural Science and Technology Education center at Rockville High School.

Another is a showcase outdoor athletic facility at RHS.

Macary was named the 2024 Connecticut Superintendent of the Year by the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents.

He has been recognized for his leadership, community involvement, and student performance improvements.

Gov. Ned Lamont recently appointed Macary to the Governor’s Blue-Ribbon Commission on K-12 Education Funding and Accountability. The commission brings together leaders from towns, school districts, schools and the state, and from the ranks of teachers, paraprofessionals, parents and school finance professionals to examine the way Connecticut funds schools.
