New Middletown Superintendent Of Schools Outlines 1st 100-Day Plan

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A new era is underway in the Middletown Public Schools, with Superintendent Joseph Macary outlining an ambitious 100-day entry plan aimed at establishing his leadership priorities and developing a long-term vision for the district.

Macary presented the plan during the district's annual educational convocation before the start of the 2026-27 school year.

The first 100 school days will focus on establishing the tone, culture and leadership approach of the new superintendent while examining district systems and gathering input from teachers, administrators and other stakeholders.

A central focus will be regular visits to every school.

Macary plans to visit each school every month to hold principal meetings, observe classrooms and meet with teachers. The visits are intended to give him a first-hand look at school culture and climate among students and staff.

Macary also plans to meet with every certified teacher in small groups to listen and learn about district initiatives and gather feedback.

Another component of the plan calls for increased communication with the community through social media. Macary plans to highlight student achievements and school accomplishments in weekly posts.

The superintendent also intends to review the systems and structures within the district's Central Office, including current procedures and practices. The goal is to identify best practices that can be applied across Central Office functions to better support schools and students.

Macary emphasized a chain of responsibility focused on student success: Central Office administrators should create the conditions for schools to succeed; principals should create the conditions for classrooms to succeed; and teachers should create the conditions for students to succeed.

The first 100 days are also intended to align goals throughout the school system and establish a foundation for educational excellence.

In January 2027, Macary plans to present his observations, data analysis and feedback from district stakeholders to the Board of Education.

Following the completion of the 100-day entry plan, the Board of Education is expected to work with Macary to establish strategic goals for the Middletown Public Schools for the remainder of the 2026-27 school year and beyond.
