Newfield Pizza Reopens + Middletown Gets Older, More Diverse

The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing today in Middletown.

(Middletown Newsletter Staff)

Good day, neighbors! Welcome to the debut edition of the Middletown Daily. I am Bill Maune and will be your daily guide to all the news, events, and general goings-on of our lovely community. Let's get started!

First, today's weather: Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High around 85F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph.

Here are the top stories today in Middletown:

  1. The City Of Middletown employees who are not fully vaccinated will have to get tested for COVID-19 weekly. Also they have to produce the results to their immediate supervisor. (City Of Middletown)
  2. Customers returned to Newfield Pizza in Middletown earlier this year following COVID-19 closures. But increasing rates of transmission in the county are causing some concern among patrons. Although Newfield Pizza employees are fully vaccinated, Middlesex County now has the fourth highest transmission rate in the state, deterring many customers from indoor dining. (WTNH.com)
  3. U.S. Census Bureau data shows that Middletown is growing more diverse and older —despite having the state's third lowest growth rate in the past decade. Mayor Ben Florsheim attributes the increase in age to young people moving to cities coupled with older folks retiring to Middletown. (Subscription: Middletown Press)
