Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Co-Founder John McEuen at the Kate

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Co-Founder John McEuen at the Kate February 25

OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, presents John McEuen and the Circle Band on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 8 pm.

McEuen comes with his band sharing music and memories of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the landmark Will the Circle Be Unbroken album, plus his incredible 50-year career. When John initiated the Will the Circle Be Unbroken album, the icons of bluegrass, country, and west coast country rock convened: Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, Merle Travis, Jimmy Martin, Roy Acuff, Vassar Clements, and Maybelle Carter. Six hot August 1971 days produced the benchmark record that is in the Grammy Hall of Fame and is still relevant to this day.

John McEuen and the Circle Band presents a multi-media show featuring Circle session photos, film clips, narrative and music of early Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, taking audience members on John’s 50-year career journey. Interwoven are Dirt Band favorites, hot bluegrass, and rare early NGDB music. T. Michael Coleman, the former bassist for Doc Watson, and Austin Lounge Lizards alum guitarist Matt Cartsonis join John on this tour. McEuen performs on banjo, guitar, fiddle and mandolin, as the trio share hits and stories behind the music, leading up to that magic time when three generations came together.
