Obituary: Angelina (DeSantis) Kane, 86, of Middletown

Angelina (DeSantis) Kane, 86, of Middletown, passed away on Thursday December 22, 2016 with her son at her bedside. She was born in Athol, MA, daughter of the late Vincent and Julia (Masiello) DeSantis.

After growing up in Athol, MA and graduating Athol High School, Angie moved to Middletown, CT in the early 1960s with her beloved husband of more than 40 years, John (Jack) H. Kane, who preceded her in death.

Prior to her retirement, Angie worked for more than 20 years as the Office Manager for the Middletown Housing Authority. While there, she forged lasting friendships, not only with her co-workers, but also with many of Middletown’s elderly residents. She always enjoyed going to work and helping many of the senior citizens who lived in Sbona Tower, where her office was located.

Angie was passionate about life and enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, and making frequent trips to the casinos. She most especially valued time spent with her family. Over the past couple of years, Angie lived with her son John and her future daughter-in-law, Angela Hartwell, in Redding, CT. There she was able to enjoy time with the true joys of her life, her three grandchildren: Samantha (15), Jack (14), and Tommy (11). Angie will be remembered for the love and care she showed her family, for her energetic pursuit of life, and for her faith. She will be sorely missed.

Angie is also survived by her brother, Dominick DeSantis of Wilmington, NC; her sister, Joan Newton of Athol, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters: Mary Koroblis, Carmela Nacca, Anna Bryson and Toni Boccardi.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown. Burial will follow at the State Veterans’ Cemetery at 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown.
