Obituary: Henry ‘Hank’ Novicki, 92, of Middletown

Hank, a longtime employee at Pratt and Whitney, was dedicated to serving the city of Middletown and the state of Connecticut.

Henry “Hank” Novicki, 92, of Middletown, husband of the late Elinor (Opalacz) Novicki, died Tuesday February 21, 2017 at his home with family at his side.

Hank was born in New Haven, son of the late Charles and Katherine (Podsiadlo) Novicki. Hank was a scheduling supervisor at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for 35 years.

Some of Hank’s fondest memories included working with his father at Novicki’s Meat Market on State Street in New Haven.

After retirement Hank became a consultant with Pratt and Whitney and a real estate agent where he served the Polish community. As important as his career was he was dedicated to serving the city of Middletown and the state of Connecticut.

Among his many volunteer activities, he was very active with the Middletown Democratic Town Committee, chairman of the Middletown Board of Finance, chairman of Middletown’s Redevelopment Agency and a member of the State Board of Education.

Hank was also a proud Veteran who served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member and past commander of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1166, the Polish Falcons Nest 519, and he was a communicant and choir member of Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church in Middletown.

As busy as Hank was with his career and volunteer work, family was the most important thing in his life. In addition to his large, loving extended family, Hank is survived by three daughters, Kay Green and her husband Gary of Acton, MA, Sally Denny and her husband Kevin of Orange, CT, Lisa Stockman and her husband Michael of Danvers, MA, a son, William Novicki and his wife Susan of Winchester, MA; and sisters-in-law, Jane Opalacz and Violet Krywinski of Middletown and Gloria Novicki of East Haven. He is also survived by nine grandchildren to whom he will always be remembered as “Dziadzi”; Kaitlin Green, Madeline Thoms and her husband Matt, Alison Green, Eric Denny and his wife Briana, Sarah Tonucci and her husband Carl, Benjamin Stockman, Elinor Stockman, Andrew Novicki, Sam Novicki, and two great grandchildren, Carter and Emma Tonucci, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ted and Frank Novicki.

Funeral services will be held Monday (Feb.27th) 2017 at 9:15 from Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown followed by an 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy in St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Middletown. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
