Obituary: Hortense Kabel, 89, of Middletown

Hortie was the owner of Kabel's Luggage and Gift Shop Inc. in Middletown and many other locations for 47 years.

Hortense Kabel, 89, of Middletown, devoted wife and partner to the late Jerome Kabel for 63 years, passed away August 20, 2016 at Middlesex Hospital Hospice. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William and Celia (Friedman) Rosenberg and had lived in Middletown for 65 years.

Hortie was a member of Adath Israel Synagogue, owner of Kabel’s Luggage and Gift Shop Inc. in Middletown and many other locations for 47 years, and was an active volunteer for many organizations, especially Middlesex Hospital Hospice.

She is survived by two sons; Kenneth (Carol) Kabel of Cincinnati, OH and Eric R. (Edgar Suan) Kabel of Rahway, NJ, one daughter; Jill K. (Donald) Levin of West Hartford and four grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Harriet Kalmanson.
