Obituary: Joaney Lynn Campbell, 53, of Middletown

Joaney L. "Ms. Jai" Campbell, born in Middletown, CT on July 18, 1963, to the late Floyd Hopkins and Mary Campbell passed away on October 21, 2016 peacefully.

You could always count on her for a positive greeting and her contagious smile. Whether it was her, 'Have a blessed day' or 'Don't thank me, thank Jesus', you can assure, it was a positive experience when you parted ways.

Whether you were a relative, distant friend or associate she went out of her way to make sure you were taken care of. If she could help you, she would. If she could not, she'd find someone who could. She promoted and supported everything anyone may have asked. Ms. Jai was a true soldier of love.

Joaney graduated from Vinal Regional Vocational Technical High School in Middletown, CT. She went on to graduate from Data Institute Business School in East Hartford. She worked at various places sprinkling sunshine along the way.

She was an energized member of Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church in Middletown, CT where she served as a steward, missionary and office assistant. She was an active member of the NAACP, Post 206 Women's Auxiliary and various organizations to which she regularly donated. She was most passionate about education, recycling and her love for God.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Campbell (CT); brother, Col. Charles Campbell and wife Mary (MD); sister, Linda Wilks (CT); brother Floyd Brown (CT); daughter Shareé Campbell (MD); sons, Shaun, Mark and Matthew Campbell (CT); beloved grandchildren; J'Lynn Turner (MD) and King Campbell (FL); and a host of family members, church family and close friends.

The Memorial Service will be held at Cross Street AME Zion Church, Middletown, CT, on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. There will be no calling hours.

You may send flowers/cards to the church. In honor of her, you may donate to the United Negro College Fund and/or a food pantry of your choice in your respective state.
