Obituary: Michael J. Cantwell, 82, of Middletown

Michael, a solid, hard-working man, served 40 years with American Contractors and was a member of the Middletown Eagles Club and Moose Club.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Biega Funeral Home) Michael J. Cantwell, 82, of Middletown, died Monday February 1, 2021 at Middlesex Hospital.

He was born in Middletown and is the son of Michael P. and Madeline (Corbett) Cantwell. Michael graduated from Middletown High in 1956 and then served in the US Navy.

He then owned Cantwell automotive before working 40 years with American Contractors.

He was a member of the Middletown Eagles Club and Moose Club and enjoyed conversing at the First and Last Tavern. He was a lover of classic cars, the NY Giants, Dolly Parton, and a good cold beer.

Michael was a solid, hard-working man, who enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He was a dependable person, always willing to provide help, advice, support, and guidance.

Michael’s warmth, sense of humor, and simple nature were easily impressed upon those that he knew, an impression that will carry on in each of us. Michael was a very special person, one who will “forever” be loved, cherished, and greatly missed, by so many.

Michael is predeceased by sisters Ilene, Francis, and Maureen, and is survived by his sons; Dean Cantwell, Michael Cantwell, Jr, Ernie Cantwell, Patrick Cantwell, Daniel Lane, daughter: Angeline Cantwell and Heather Lane, sisters: Doddy and Rose Marie, and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday (February 5th) at 1 p.m. at the State Veterans’ Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown. All are welcome to attend.
