Obituary: Ransford Whittington Smith Jr., 45, of Middletown

Ransford W. Smith Jr., a West Haven Firefighter, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ransford Whittington Smith Jr., 45, of Middletown, died Friday, December 9, 2016, at Middlesex Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Christina M. Edwards.

He was born and raised in Hartford, CT, January 4, 1971, a son of Ransford W. Smith Sr. of Bloomfield and the late Vivia Smith. He was a graduate Of Thomas Weaver H.S. in Hartford and then studied at Sarah Lawrence College in New York City.

He started his career in E.M.S. in Bloomfield and went onto become the Chief of Windsor E.M.S. He then worked as a Paramedic for Aetna before becoming a Firefighter for the City of West Haven.

In addition to his wife Christina and Father Ransford, he is survived by his beloved children, Ransford “Trey” W. Smith III, Sierra Glaspy, Maximillian Smith, Alyssa Glaspy, Xavier Smith and Isaac Edwards. He is also survived by five siblings and many uncles, aunts, cousins, niece, nephews and his best friend, Meghan Savelli.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, Tuesday, December 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, 161 S. Whittlesey Ave, Wallingford. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Ransford W. Smith Jr., Education Fund, c/o Wallingford Funeral Home 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, CT 06492.
