Interstate 91 Now Open in Middletown After 20-Vehicle Accident: UPDATE
Three tractor trailers were involved in the accident. Officials are advising residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

UPDATE: I-91 is now OPEN. Expect heavy delay. Reduce speed, State Police said.
State Police say 20 cars may be involved in a serious multi-car crash on Interstate 91 Exit 21 in Cromwell/Middletown.
Three tractor trailers are involved but no serious injuries have been reported. The accident may take three hours to clear.

There are two ruptured saddled tanks on two of those trucks, according to Middletown Mayor Dan Drew.
EMS is treating up to 10 people at the scene now and transporting several, according to Drew.

Drew is advising motorists to stay off the roads unless the absolutely have to.
“State police have the area under control and Middletown PD is closing access from city roads onto the interstate,” Drew said in a post on Facebook. “Westfield Fire is at the scene. Stay away from that area if you can. I'll keep everyone posted as any relevant information comes up. Stay home unless you absolutely have to go out and be safe. Thank you.”
