Power Outages Could Last For Days: Middletown Mayor
Middletown Mayor Dan Drew updates residents on the power outages and the restoration effort by Eversource.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown residents currently without power can expect it to last for a few days, according to Mayor Dan Drew. A total of more than 143,000 Connecticut were without power of 10:30 a.m. Monday as a significant rain and wind storm caused major havoc in the state. Between three to five inches of rain fell and wind gusts exceeded 60 mph at times. United Illuminating Co. reported more than 4,600 outages and Eversource reported 139,286 outages as of 10:30 a.m. Power outage totals were beginning to drop slowly as there were 160,000 plus outages earlier this morning.
Drew said in a post on Facebook that he spoke with a representative from Eversource on Monday morning and they “expect this to be a multiple day restoration, which means those residential customers without power (I am one) may be without it for a few days.”
“Their restoration priorities begin with life-threatening events (i.e. if someone is trapped in a car with live wires around it); they then move on to clearing blocked roads; they then move on to restoring critical facilities (like sewage treatment plants or senior housing),” Drew wrote on Facebook. “Only when those priorities are completed do they repair large numbers of residential customers.
