"The Little Engine That Could" Kicks Off the Kate's Children's Series on November 16

OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The popular Children’s Series at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (the Kate) begins its 2019-2020 season withArtsPower’s dynamic, song-filled production of “The Little Engine That Could” on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 1 pm.



This musical stage adventure portrays Watty Piper’s timeless tale about hard work, determination, and loyalty as Little Blue Engine dreams of someday leaving the train yard to pull the big cars on the main line track. The production is recommended for grades K through 5.

  • “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas,” an original Christmas musical by Virginia Rep takes place on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 1 pm. It tells the story of Tuck and his father as they prepare for Christmas. Mr. Grumpasaurus strives to thwart all holiday merriment, but with the help of Santa and his elves, Christmas turns out to be the best one yet.
  • On Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 1 pm set sail with young Jim Hawkins aboard the Hispaniola for the mysterious “Treasure Island,” a tiny spot in the ocean believed to conceal the greatest of fortunes. Virginia Rep’s merry musical adaptation is fun-filled and action-packed, emphasizing the moral foundation of this timeless classic.
  • ArtsPower brings its popular musical, “Biscuit,” on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 1 pm. Based on the iconic book series, it is the story of a frolicking little puppy who loves exploring, making new friends, and even stirring up some mischief.
