Reopening Of Playgrounds & Sports Leagues Update In Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, CT — As part of the next phase of reopening in Connecticut, Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim updated residents on sports leagues and the use of fields in the city.

Florsheim said that after June 17, “sports leagues, teams, or organizations may resume using city fields after submitting a plan for return to play and received approval from the Health Department and the Parks Department.”

“The city supports and will allow play with teams from surrounding communities, and will not limit field use to only Middletown players,” Florsheim wrote in a post on Facebook on Monday. “Return-to-play plans should demonstrate how teams will practice social distancing and follow other state and local guidelines, and must be followed to ensure safe play for everyone.”

The playgrounds and basketball courts will reopen for public use on June 29, according to Florsheim.

“There will be signage at these locations reminding users to utilize good hygiene practices and maintain physical distance when possible,” Florsheim said.
