MIDDLETOWN, CT — The town has lost Retired Middletown Fire Chief George Dunn.

The Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association announced his passing Tuesday night.

According t the announcement, over five decades, Dunn worked his way up from firefighter to fire lieutenant to deputy fire marshal to deputy chief and ultimately to fire chief.

Dunn was chief from 1986 to 1994.

He was former Mayor Domenique Thornton's assistant for four years and Office of Emergency Management director from 2002 to 2010.

He returned to consulting work, but again assumed the emergency director's job from 2014 to 2017.

Dunn was President of the Connecticut Fire Chief’s Association in 1992. He was also an adjunct instructor at the Connecticut Fire Academy.

"Chief Dunn will always be remembered with distinction and for always being a gentleman. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to Chief Dunn’s family," the association said.
