Retired Middletown Officer Sentenced on Child Porn Charge

A former Middletown police officer was sentenced to seven years in prison on a child pornography charge.

Samuel DiProto, 63, of Cromwell pleaded guilty to receiving child porn last year, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in the District of Massachusetts.

DiProto downloaded child pornography files from 2009 through March 2013 using a file sharing network. Law enforcement officials traced some of the downloads back to DiProto.

He will also serve 10 years of supervised release.

DiProto is also facing charges at the state level for risk of injury, first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree reckless endangerment and intentional cruelty.
