Making Headlines

Making Our Streets Safer

The results of a 1-year study on how to make Middletown’s most dangerous streets safer will be shared at public information meetings on September 22 and September 24 in Middletown’s Council Chamber. Presentations by engineering firm CDM Smith will be given at 5 p.m., followed by questions and comments until 7 p.m. Click here for more information.

Design To Begin Soon --Central CT Loop Trail in Middletown
Many of you in our network followed the CCLT route study in 2024. This fall, the trail section from the Arrigoni Bridge to Middletown High School, shown in the image above, will be designed. There will be opportunities for public engagement at various points during the 20-month process. We will keep you informed.

CT DOT Plans To Rehabilitate Railroad Bridge
In connection with CT DOT’s plans to rehabilitate the railroad bridge between Middletown and Portland, some of us asked about the prospect of this bridge becoming a pedestrian and bicycle bridge, if and when the rail line becomes inactive. One DOT engineer stated that this bridge is not a good candidate for such use because it is so low above the river and would likely need to have an onsite gate keeper to open the swing bridge for marine vessels.
