Food To Energy Pilot Project

Middletown will soon embark on a food-waste collection pilot project. Residents and businesses in the city’s Sanitation District will have separate bags for food scraps and other trash. This will allow the food-waste to feed a biodigester in Southington, generating energy and compost. "Jon Boats" Acquired For Water Chestnut Work

The Jonah Center is the proud new owner of 2 aluminum utility boats, known as “jon boats.” These will help us remove invasive water chestnut plants from the Floating Meadows and the Connecticut River next spring and summer. Read more here.

Another Native Tree Threatened

We can add beech trees to the list of species affected by new diseases. Discoloration between the veins of the leaves (shown here) indicates the presence of Beech Leaf Disease. It is observed mainly in forests but also in landscaped areas. Read the article by Jane Harris here.
