Support Pours in for Middletown Officers to Attend Dallas Funerals

The community is rallying and doing everything it can do help get the Middletown officers down to Dallas to honor the fallen officers.

Middletown, CT — Several Middletown police officers are planning on heading to Dallas to attend the funerals for the officers killed in last week’s sniper attack and the community is doing everything it can to get them there.

A GoFundMe account was launched on Monday to help raise the necessary funds for Officer Frank Nicholas to attend Officer Michael Smith's funeral service and it exceeded its goal within 20 hours.

The page has raised $1,650 by 24 people in 20 hours, as of Tuesday afternoon.

“I have been to most of the NY and New England Line of Duty Deaths in my 17 year career,” Nicholas wrote on the page. “Going is a show of support for the family of the slain officer, the officers he worked with and the community she served. It's the least I can do for someone who gave everything."

Fox 61 reports that the number of Middletown police officers planning on attending funeral services has doubled since Monday and is now up to 12.

The increase is due to an offer by Southwest Airlines to fly officers down for free, according to Fox61.

Middletown Police also received also received an anonymous $200 donation from an anonymous citizen on Tuesday.

Police say they continue to be touched by the community’s outpouring show of support.

“Thank you to the Middletown citizen who donated$200 today,” police said in a post on Facebook. “It is much appreciated. We will be giving it to the officers heading to Dallas to cover their expenses. We have been deeply touched by all of the heart felt support we have received over the past few days. We have a great community!!!!!”
