Teen Charged In Middletown Hate-Based Vandalism Spree: Police

Middletown police said a 17-year-old boy used human feces to damage homes, cars and public property on and around the city's North End.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A 17-year-old Middletown teen was arrested and charged Friday in connection with a vandalism spree where police said he targeted homes with flags supporting specific social issues and the LGBTQ+ community.

The teen, whom authorities did not identify because he was not charged as an adult, faces three counts of criminal mischief and three counts of intimidation based on bigotry or bias, Middletown police said in a news release.

According to police, authorities received multiple calls starting June 23 about vandalism on and around the city's North End. Police said the vandalism targeted homes, cars and public property. According to police, the suspect used human feces to contaminate and damage multiple properties.

After working with the Connecticut State Police Hate Crime Unit and other agencies, Middletown police identified the 17-year-old boy as the suspect behind the spree.

Police said the teen is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. According to authorities, he was released to the custody of his parents.
