Van, Motorcycle Collide On Route 9 in Middletown

Route 9 was closed for a bit Wednesday after a van and motorcycle collided.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A van and motorcycle tangled up on a section of Route 9 in Middletown Wednesday, police said.

The collision took place at 3:25 p.m. on Route 9 southbound at the Washington Street exit.

Police said a Harley-Davidson motorcycle had collided with a Chevrolet Express van in the southbound lane. The operator of the motorcycle had a laceration to her head and was transported to Hartford Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet van was not injured, police said.

Route 9 South was temporarily closed while the Middletown Police Traffic Division investigated the collision.

Police said preliminary details indicate that the motorcycle had been traveling northbound on Route 9 when the rider attempted to turn left (west) onto Washington Street. She subsequently collided with the side of the Chevrolet van that was traveling southbound, police said.

The crash remained under investigation Thursday and anyone with information on it can contact police at 860-638-4063.
