2 Foran High School Students Sign National Letters Of Intent

MILFORD – The Milford Public Schools is pleased to announce two students have signed National Letters of Intent to continue athletic play in college. The students recently attended special signing events at the school.

Samantha O’Neill, daughter of Brian and Patricia O’Neill of Milford, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division II lacrosse at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Ms. O’Neill intends to major in nursing at the school while serving as a member of the Women’s Lacrosse team there.

A 4-year athlete at Foran, Samantha also was a member of the school’s volleyball and swim teams, in addition to girls’ lacrosse. Lacrosse is her favorite sport, however, and has been playing since she was 4. Samantha got her first taste of lacrosse through the Milford Youth Lacrosse league. She later joined the Norester Girls Lacrosse league, a travel-based team in Fairfield county.

O’Neill will serve as an offense/attacker for the FSC ‘Mocs’ in the 2019-20 season.

“I am so relieved that the decision has now been made and I can enjoy the rest of my time at Foran,” Samantha commented.

As an interesting side note, Samantha’s twin sister Sydney, who is a student at Lauralton Hall (Milford,) will be joining her on the playing field at FSC, and also signed a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse there.

Shane McCone, son of Bill and Judy McCone of Milford, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division II baseball at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Mr. McCone will be serving at 3rd base/infield for the Purple Knights in the fall. Shane plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice.

A 4-year starter on the baseball team while at Foran, Shane has had an illustrious career in the sport thus far. He got his start through the Milford Little League program, moving on to the Milford American Legion league in later years. Beginning in 9th/10th grade, Shane began to attend the many baseball showcases that were held across the region.

With a batting average of .300 and a strong glove, Shane’s talents were noticed by the college recruiters he encountered on the showcase track.

“I am grateful to Coach (Garrett) Walker for his help all along the way,” Shane commented. “As for playing college ball, I am pumped – and really excited about the future.”
