250 More Milford Students to Ride Buses Costing $288K
Milford Board of Education reduced the requirements to ride school buses at the high and middle school levels next year.

The Board of Education voted this week to reduce the walking distance for middle school and high school.
They did not change the guidelines for elementary school. High school will go from 2 miles down to 1.5 miles and middle school will go from 1.5 miles down to 1 mile. Elementary school is unchanged – 1 mile.
“Our evaluation has estimated that under the new guidelines approximately 250 additional students will be eligible for transportation which will cost up to $288,000 more in the budget next year,” said James L. Richetelli Jr. who is the school system’s chief operations officer.

The base contract with Durham bus has a 3 percent increase, so overall, the changes will result in approximately a 15% increase in the transportation budget, Richetelli added.
He said this is for regular transportation only and does not affect Special Education, Athletic, Field Trip, etc. transportation.
