Milford Kiwanis Club Awards Scholarships

The presented its 2012 Scholarship awards to four deserving Milford students Wednesday, June 6, 2012. The 2012 "Kiwanis Scholar" award was presented to Fareed "Fred" Hanania, a Jonathan Law senior who will continue his studies at Bentley University majoring in business marketing.

Fred was accompanied by his parents, Mark and Nadia Hanania as he accepted his award from Kiwanis President Kevin McGrath and Past Lt. Governor Christopher Carveth from the Milford service organization.

"As President of the National Honor Society at , and as demonstrated by his many school activities in Key Club (a Kiwanis sponsored service group), Fred's accomplishments bring merit to himself, his family and to the Milford community. He is a most deserving recipient of the award" said Attorney Carveth.

Milford Kiwanis also presented three "Al LeMere Memorial" awards to Key Club members demonstrating exceptional achievement and volunteer service in their high school careers. Ray Carissimi of Jonathan Law, Michelle Mikailonis of Foran and Kathleen Kilpatrick Morton of Lauralton Hall -Academy of our Lady of Mercy, accompanied by their parents, were each presented with the award named in memory of deceased Kiwanis member Al LeMere, a long-time Key Club adviser and supporter of the Key Club mission. Club President Kevin McGrath congratulated each of the students and their parents for raising "these fine young pople who demonstrate such promise." Ray, President of the JLHS Key Club, will attend Housatonic Community College. Michelle, a four year Key Club member is bound for the University of Maryland where she will study political science. Kathleen, from the Milford Club's newest sponsored Key Club at Lauralton Hall, will continue her business education at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Dennis Haylon, Chairman of the Kiwanis Scholarship committee, thanked the local Kiwanians for "your hard work in raising the money to support these outstanding students." The Milford Kiwanis Club, chartered in 1950, is an active participant in the Kiwanis International mission, "Serving the Children of the World."
