Another 'Pay it Forward' Moment Inspires in Milford

A restaurant patron recently paid for an elderly man's meal at Lasse's Restaurant.

Milford’s official motto is “The Small City with a Big Heart,” and once again residents lived up to that slogan.

Patricia Collins late Monday shared on social media about a touching story involving someone who was dining at Lasse’s Restaurant paying the meal for an elderly man who recently ate there.

The news comes on the heels of another similar encounter, which happened at ShopRite in Milford where a gentlemen paid for the groceries of Janet Golden, who had left her debit card at home.

A Lasse’s holiday story...pass it on.

Tonight a very sweet, elderly man with glasses and a cane requested a table for one.

He ordered a glass of wine and a wonderful meal, then sat and ate alone in silence. He was pleasent and the little conversation we had surrounded his dinner order and the food.

I brought him a to go container, at his request. As he packaged up the remainder of his dinner, he said, “That was AMAZING!”

“Do you know what’s amazing, I replied? Your dinner bill was paid for by the people who were sitting at center table (they had already left). I don’t know if you know them, but your check is paid.”

The sweet old man looked totally stunned. As he reached for his wallet, it was obvious to me that he wanted to leave me a tip. “No, tip required, they tipped me too. (An extremely generous $10.00)Your dinner is paid for.” I said.

I cleared the man’s plate and brought it to the kitchen. Upon returning to the dinning room, I witnessed the man shaking his head in disbelief while smiling ear to ear. He was so happy and he felt special. It warms my heart every time I think about it.

This holiday season, follow the lead of the people who sat at the center table. Pass on a random, anonymous act of kindness. Wait for the opportunity and act on it. I know I’m going to.”
