I am an elected member of the Milford Democratic Town Committee and I am often asked by Milford residents, "is the Milford Republican Town Committee (MRTC) MAGA?" People are always surprised when I say yes. I think because Milford is such a friendly community, it is hard to imagine that MAGA Republicans lurk among us. All you have to do is look at the MRTC website to see for yourself. It is all Daffy Tramp all the time. We have elected Milford representatives who take pictures in Maro-Largo with Tramp, a bonafide sociopath, and proudly display these pictures on Facebook. If you know anything about the Republican party then you know they don't tolerate dissent. That means, every elected Republican votes and behaves exactly the way the RTC tells them to. If they don't, they won't be running for office again. So it should be no surprise to hear that Milford Republicans have been engaging in the same shenanigans as the Republicans in Washington. That's right, for the last 2 years Milford elected officials have spread false information about City projects just to obstruct grants for Milford from the state, Republicans who have been sworn to ensure that Milford public schools get the funding they need seek to cut essential educational programs at every turn, and most agregiously, they have declared war on women. For the past 2 years I have been witness to elected Republicans in Milford harassing and bullying Democratic women for no reason other than the fact that they are women. They even make up lies about these women. One of these women being black which particularly disgusts me because Milford Republicans are living up to the stereotype of being both racist and misogynistic. Milford Republicans extend this courtesy to city female employees as well. In fact one bully on the BOA lunged at a woman who works for the city like a rabid dog and is running for reelection.
Case in point, 2 months ago an empty Democratic seat on the Board of Alders (BOA) was routinely filled by the age old process of the DTC appointing a replacement, a man, and the BOA unanimously voting to confirm this appointment. The RTC even posted on Facebook an explanation for why voting in the Democrat was the right thing to do. In fact, it is long held precedent that these appointments be voted in unanimously because to leave the seat empty is to deny a district adequate representation. So last month, the Democrats appointed another replacement in another district, a woman who is HIGHLY qualified, but then again, why wouldn't she be, and every single Republican voted against her, leaving the seat in the 2nd district vacant. To the best of my knowledge, this is a complete break from precedent and has never been done before in the history of Milford.
So if you hate women and think this was a great power grab by the Republicans, then go ahead and vote Republican next month. But if you dislike MAGA politics, vote for Democrats. Also, show up at the 10/6 BOA meeting at City Hall at 7:30pm and voice your concerns.
