Man Phoned in Bomb Threat to Steal Truck from Milford Car Dealership: Police

Milford police released new details of the bomb threat and the motive behind the call, which led to the bomb squad's arrival.

Milford, CT - A Killingworth man has been charged with placing a bomb threat to a local car dealership on Monday, police said.

Police said at 12:15 p.m. on Monday Chevrolet of Milford at 655 Bridgeport Avenue received a bomb threat.

The 911 phone call was made from a local restaurant, when a man asked an employee if he could use the phone.

The man, Dylan Esposito, 43, of Stevens Road, Killingworth, called 911 stating “there is a bomb at the Chevy dealership in Milford” and then hung up, police said in a news release.

Officers responded and began clearing the building and area of people.

An individual being evacuated, told officers of a suspicious person, Esposito, that had been walking in the parking lot, police said.

Esposito was located in the area by officers and detained for questioning, police said. It was later confirmed that Esposito was the individual who had made the 911 call from the restaurant, police said.

CT State Police Bomb Squad was called and responded to the scene. The business and area was checked and determined that there was no bomb, police said.

While being detained by officers it was found that Esposito was in possession of a firearm, and that he does not hold a valid Connecticut Pistol Permit, police said.

During the course of the investigation it was learned that Esposito had stolen a key to a 2017 Chevy Silverado earlier in the day and was planning on using the distraction of the 911 call to steal the truck, police said.

Esposito is charged with the following:

Carrying a Firearm without a Permit Threatening 1st

Larceny 6th

Criminal Attempt Larceny 1st

Esposito was released on $10,000 bond and is due in Milford Superior Court on July 12.
