Boys & Girls Club of Milford, CT 2017 Walnut Beach Ice Cream Run (5K) to take place Sunday, August 6, 2017

Milford, CT—June 20, 2017— The Boys & Girls Club of Milford, CT is excited to announce that the 2017 Walnut Beach Ice Cream Run will take place on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Walnut Beach [113 Broadway Milford, CT, 06460]. The Walnut Beach Ice Cream Run is a certified USATF 5K Course.

“The Walnut Beach 5K is one of the highlights of the summer calendar,” said Megan Altomare, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Milford. “The Club members look forward to cheering on all of the competitors and enjoying a day with the community. The Club focuses on healthy habits, such as eating well and exercising, and this event reinforces those healthy habits. We are especially excited about our new title sponsor Edgewell Personal Care, their passion, mission, and values for health and community perfectly match our mission for this race.“

o Pre-Registered Runners can pick up their bibs and t-shirts starting at 7:00AM on the day of the race

o Kid’s Race: We will begin gathering the kids around 7:45AM for a light stretch prior to the Kid’s Race start.

o 5K Race: We will begin lining runners up as soon as the Kid’s Race has completed.

o Arrive early to give yourself enough time to get your bib and t-shirt.

o Stellar sportsmanship is expected by all participants.

Summer Program—The six-week program will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Milford, Simon Lake Unit (59 Devonshire Road, Milford, CT). Youth ages 6-16 years old can participate in the summer program, July 3 – August 11. The program will run Monday thru Friday from 8AM-5PM. (Early or late pickup times are not available.) The cost of the program is $650 for six-weeks or $125 per week. The program is limited to 180 participants and scholarships are available for qualifying families (must apply for Care 4 Kids application prior to submitting scholarship form – see Front Desk at the Boys & Girls Club for more information). Enrollment opens April 1 to current active members of the Boys & Girls Club of Milford, opening to the general public on April 16. Junior Counselor Program—The Junior Counselor Program is open to ten high school Club members, ages 13 to 18, who are interested in exploring a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work. Participants prepare for future roles as human services professionals by participating in career development activities, discovering the importance of community service, building customer service skills and completing a Club apprenticeship. The Club also emphasizes the development of Club members’ interpersonal skills, work ethic and sense of community responsibility.
