Single Stream Recycling, U.S. Census Survey, Silver Sands Safety Summit
Single Stream Recycling, US Census Survey, Silver Sands Safety Summit

American Community Survey - My office has received several phone calls questioning the validity of a survey that they received. I have done some research and found, in fact, that the survey, if you received it, is legitimate. It is from American Community Survey, a division of the US Census Bureau. I have attached a link to their site. The site seems to be quite comprehensive and answers many questions. It is a very personal questionnaire and as the American Community Survey states the information gathered is used for the distribution of Federal Funds. In addition, you are required by Federal Law to fill it out and return it. I hope this information is helpful to you. http://www.census.gov/acs/www/
Single Stream Recycling Bins Are Here! Single stream recycling is a win-win for us all. I've already noticed a big decrease in my daily garbage. The change has sparked several questions. 1. Who is responsible if they are broken or stolen? We are just as we were with the small blue bins. 2 How do we replace them? Just as before, a trip to Public Works. 3. And what is the replacement cost? $58.00!
Silver Sands Safety Summit - Senator Gayle Slossberg and I Co-Chaired a Silver Sands Safety Summit Monday at City Hall. We met with the Mayor, Chief of Police, Fire Chief, Dept. of Recreations Supervisor as well as several DEEP representatives. It was a fact-finding meeting and many great suggestions for additional safety at Silver Sands came from the meeting. The very first change is that the Lifeguards will have a radio and will monitor Channel 16 - the marine channel. It was determined that local boaters would be able to assist in an emergency as they are already in the water and in the area. Other suggestions were signage changes, emergency call boxes (cell phone service can be spotty at the beach), high tide horn as well as several other ideas.
