The NOAA Fisheries Milford Lab's annual Open House is this Saturday, September 12, from 10 AM - 3 PM, at 212 Rogers Ave in Milford, CT. If you enjoy eating Connecticut shellfish or ever wonder about oysters’ role in Long Island Sound ecosystems, join us! It's a free, family-friendly event focused on STEM and marine science. We have hands-on science activities available for all ages. Researchers will set up exhibits throughout the laboratory and grounds to help the community learn about:
- Breeding more resilient oysters
- The role of shellfish in marine ecosystems
- Field work in marine science
- The impacts of environmental change on shellfish
- Growing phytoplankton
Visitors can tour the lab at their own pace and meet-and-greet with local marine scientists.
Our lab has been part of the Milford community for nearly 100 years. It was originally established at the request of Connecticut’s oyster industry to help expand sustainable oyster harvests. We continue to be a world leader in shellfish research. Learn more and plan your visit:
