From the Office of State Representative Charles Ferraro: State Representatives Charlie Ferraro and Kim Rose participated in a tour of NRG Power Plant located in the Devon section of Milford.
“The power plant in Devon provides our community and state with reliable clean power at a cost-effective price,” said Rep. Ferraro. “As a new member of the Energy and Technology Committee, this visit was an educational opportunity for me, and gave me a better understanding of the need for all types of energy.”
“I am grateful to NRG for their willingness to let us explore their power plant facility and learn so much about the services they provide to millions of residential and commercial customers nationwide,” Rep. Rose said. “It was enlightening to learn more about their business and the vital role they play by stepping in when energy demand increases, particularly during a power loss. I am proud to have them in Milford.”

NRG Devon Power facility uses ultra-low sulfur kerosene combustion and natural gas turbines to generate a maximum capacity of 175 MW of electricity. It uses NOx water injection on several of its units to help reduce the amount of NOx emissions.
In addition, NRG is an available energy source on extremely cold or hot days when the grid is in need of extra energy or if the electric grid goes down. It has a fast start capability--fully operational within 10 minutes. It can supply an additional 200 MW of power, enough to supply 160,000 homes to an area of the state where it is difficult to import electricity.
