CT State Rep. Rose Discusses 'Care 4 Kids' Subsidy

From The Connecticut General Assembly: State Representative Kim Rose (D-Milford) offered testimony asking the legislature’s Appropriations Committee to fully restore funding to Care 4 Kids during a public hearing at the Legislative Office Building.

Many low income families in the state are in danger of losing the Care 4 Kids subsidy that helps them cover the costs of child care. The program allows parents that work to ensure their children can receive quality care while they work.

Rep. Rose said in her testimony that, “The loss of this child care subsidy would have a devastating effect not only on our state’s families at risk of losing access to child care, but this action will also have a severe impact on small daycare businesses, and especially home-based businesses.”

According to recent reports, due to the state’s fiscal situation, program applications are being halted and some existing participants may get not get renewed into the program.

“While I fully understand the state’s financial situation and the need to make difficult decisions, I am asking to re-evaluate and consider other options to help families in need and at the same time our small businesses,” Rep. Rosesaid.

Rep. Rose said she will be monitoring the progress and development of this issue as the legislature prepares for a new 2017 Legislative Session.

Rep. Kim Rose is serving her third legislative term in the CT General Assembly, representing Milford’s 118th District. Kim is an Assistant Majority Whip, Vice Chairman of the Housing Committee, a member of the Select Committee on Veteran Affairs, and the Children's Committee. She previously served on the Environment Committee and Planning and Development Committee. She is a member of the Shoreline Preservation Committee, the Tourism and Sportsmen's Caucus.
