New FBI report shows some violent crimes rising in CT

The FBI report measures crime from 2019 to 2020 and Connecticut saw a 30 percent jump in the rate of homicides, according to Fox 61. CT's increase was in line with the national average.

The rate of vehicle thefts soared by 40 percent between 2019 and 2020, according to Fox 61.

However, the FBI report reveals that the rate of all violent crimes, which includes homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, actually declined in Connecticut. (Read the full Fox 61 story here.)

Local Democrats and Republicans have been vigorously debating the FBI report on social media.

Democrats contend that overall all violent crime decreased in Connecticut and that we're the fourth-safest state in the country. The CT GOP sees the results differently and said "Connecticut is more dangerous than ever."
