Snow Ending, 50 MPH Winds Forecast Saturday Night

The National Weather Service has updated and expanded several advisories across Connecticut as a major storm arrived Saturday.

CONNECTICUT — A strong storm dropped heavy rain and some snow across the state on Saturday and as the precipitation ends this evening the next chapter will center on the strong gusty winds.

As of 5 p.m. Saturday, more than 10,000 Connecticut residents are without power and that number will likely increase as a wind advisory is in effect for most of the state. Wind gusts approaching 50 mph are possible.

For the remainder of tonight, less than an inch of additional snow accumulation is possible in parts of the state, and temperatures will drop into the upper teens.

On Sunday, sunshine returns, but it remains windy with gusts approaching 30 mph, and it will be cold with temperatures only reaching into the mid 30s.

On Monday we warm up with temperatures reaching 50 degrees, and it will be sunny. More sun on Tuesday and it could reach 60 degrees. More sun on Wednesday and high temperatures in the mid 50s, and more sunshine and around 60 degrees on Thursday. There is a chance of rain showers next Friday and Saturday.

Here are the advisories that are still in effect from the National Weather Service:

Inland sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties: The winter weather advisory expires at 7 p.m. Up to an additional inch of snow is possible. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.


Inland sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties and coastal sections of Fairfield County: A wind advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday. Northwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.


Coastal sections of Fairfield County: The winter weather advisory expires at 7 p.m. Up to an inch of snow may accumulate. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.


Middlesex and New London counties and coastal sections of New Haven County: A wind advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday. Northwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.


Hartford/Tolland County: The winter weather advisory expires at 10 p.m. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.


Hartford/Tolland/Windham County: A wind advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts between 40 and 50 mph.


Litchfield County: The winter weather advisory expires at 7 p.m. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
